Cape Girardeau County

Construction of the diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 61 (mile marker 99) between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri, is underway. During this phase of construction, contractor crews will replace the northbound I-55 bridge.  Learn more: https://www.modot.org/center-junction-ddi 

Northbound and southbound Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau and Perry Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform bridge repairs. 

The following lane closures will be in place on I-55:

  • Northbound work will extend from mile marker 117 to mile marker 129.
  • Southbound work will extend from mile marker 129 to mile marker 111.

Weather permitting, work will begin Thursday, March 11, with completion anticipated Monday, May 31.

Southbound Route 61 (Kingshighway) in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

The following lane closures will be in place on Route 61:

•          Work will extend from Golden Eagle Drive to Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

•          Work will extend from Route K to southbound Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Weather permitting, work will take place overnight Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 16 from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

Route D in Cape Girardeau County will be closed as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway. This section of roadway is located between County Road 412 and County Road 427. Weather permitting, work will take place Wednesday,  April 7 through Thursday, April 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Route AB (Nash Road) in Cape Girardeau County will be closed as contractor crews perform railroad maintenance. This section of roadway is located 1.8 miles west of southbound Outer Road I-55 (Airport Road). Weather permitting, work will be underway Friday, April 9 through Monday, April 12, including overnight.
