Cape Girardeau County

North and Southbound Route 61 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform pavement repairs. Weather permitting, work will be performed Monday, April 8 through Saturday, Aug. 31.  Restrictions on Route 61 will be in place in the following locations:

  • Jackson: Route 25 to Old Orchard between 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Cape: County Park Drive to Route 74 (S. Kingshighway) between 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Cape: Route 74 to the I-55 (S. Kingshighway) overpass between 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Route K in Cape County will be reduced with a 12-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform pavement repairs. Weather permitting, work will performed from Wednesday, May 1 through Sunday, Sept. 1. Work between Route 25 and County Road 206 will be performed from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Work between County Road 206 and Route 61/Kingshighway will be performed from 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Bridge repairs to the Route 74/Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau County will take place from Tuesday, May 28 through Monday, Sept. 16. Contractor crews will repair the metal joint connecting Route 74 to the bridge on the Missouri side. Contractors crews will repair the westbound lanes first, so head-to-head traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes. Once completed, traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes while the eastbound side is repaired. Throughout the project, driving lanes will be reduced to a  12-foot width restriction. The Emerson Bridge goes over the Mississippi River into Illinois located between Fountain Street and Levee Road.

Outer Road 55/ Larch Lane in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced with a 10 foot width restriction as contractor crews overlay the roadway with asphalt.  This section of roadway is located from Route 61 near Fruitland, Missouri to County Road 434.  Weather permitting, work will take place from Wednesday, July 17 through Friday, Nov. 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Work will soon be underway to repair the Interstate 55 bridges over Highway 61 between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri (Center Junction). Missouri Department of Transportation crews will work on the southbound I-55 bridge first. Repairs to the southbound bridge will be underway from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 29 through Tuesday, Aug. 6, weather permitting. MoDOT crews will then move to the northbound I-55 bridge, with repairs taking place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 through Thursday, Aug. 15, weather permitting. As work is underway in both locations, I-55 will be reduced with a 14-foot width restriction. Crews will work in alternating lanes. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in this area and to follow work zone signage.

Route 61 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform pavement improvements. The project limits will extend from Interstate 55 at Fruitland, Missouri, to Route 25.  Improvements will be completed in three phases. Contractors will first extend the right turn lane at Route D. During the next phase of the project, crews will repair the pavement from Interstate 55 to Madison Street in Jackson, Missouri. A detour will be available for southbound traffic as work is underway from Route D to Madison Street. The final phase of the project will include resurfacing from Interstate 55 to Route 25. Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, July 29 through Friday, Nov. 1. During this multi-phase project, crews will work at various times – including overnight as necessary.
