Interstate 55 & Route 61 (Diverging Diamond Interchange): Construction of the DDI at I-55 & Route 61 (mile marker 99) is set to begin with a series of lane reductions. Weather permitting, the following work will take place on I-55 at Exit 99. Various lane closures, with a 10-foot width restriction, will take place on northbound I-55 from Tuesday, March 3 through Thursday, April 9 to begin construction for the crossover. These closures will be in place for 24-hours.
Southbound I-55 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane as contractor crews perform median cross-over work. This section of road is located 1 mile north of Exit 99. Weather permitting, work will be performed Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, April 7 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Construction of the diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 61 (mile marker 99) between Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri, is underway. Median crossovers will soon be in place to allow head-to-head traffic on I-55 and Route 61.
Weather permitting, the following traffic impacts will begin the week of April 6:
- Tuesday, April 7-Interstate 55: Southbound I-55 traffic will be shifted to utilize the northbound I-55 lanes in the vicinity of the Exit 99 interchange. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place.
- Tuesday, April 7-Exit 99 Interchange Ramps: The Exit 99 northbound I-55 on ramp and southbound I-55 off ramp will be closed to traffic.
- Thursday, April 9-Route 61: Northbound Route 61 traffic will be shifted to utilize southbound Route 61. An 11-foot width restriction will be in place.
During this phase of construction, contractor crews will replace the southbound I-55 bridge. Completion of the southbound bridge is anticipated in Dec. 2020. In early 2021, work will begin to replace the northbound bridge.
Route T in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties will be closed as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace several pipes under the roadway. This section of roadway is located from the Route N junction to County Road 434. Weather permitting, work will take place Thursday, April 2 through Thursday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.
Route Z in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert pipe under the roadway. This section of roadway is located between School Lane and Route 25. Weather permitting, work will take place Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
