Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia Public Involvement

MoDOT, in partnership with its Design-Build contractor, The ESS Team, will be hosting two public hearings highlighting the basic project plans, construction phasing, and schedule of the Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia project on both Monday, March 2, and Wednesday, March 4 in Columbia.

The open-house-style hearings will provide the opportunity for nearby residents, businesses, and travelers to learn about and provide comments regarding the planned improvements. No formal presentation will be made. The public can attend the hearings any time between the advertised hours. The information will be the same at each location. Engineers from MoDOT and the Design-Build contractor team, The ESS Team, will be present to answer questions.  There will be an opportunity for the public to give written and recorded oral statements at these in-person public hearings.

Collector-Distributor (CD) Roads

Collector-distributor (CD) roads are separated from the freeway’s main driving lanes. Their primary purpose is to allow the entry and exit movements, or weaves, to occur away from the high-speed traffic on the main driving lanes. A CD Road is similar to an exit ramp, but is typically longer, and has the advantage of allowing drivers to bypass traffic signals at intersections. The collector lanes are usually separated by a barrier wall from the main driving lanes of the highway.

Auxiliary Lanes

This project includes auxiliary lanes, which connect the entrance ramp at one interchange to the exit ramp at the next interchange. The additional lane allows more space to merge onto or off of the interstate in its own lane, instead of in one of the main highway through lanes.

  • U.S. 40 Interchange at Midway
    • New U.S. 40 overpass with 10-foot shoulder on west side for future sidewalk connection.
       
  • I-70 at Perche Creek
    • New North and South Outer Road bridges crossing Perche Creek.
       
  • Stadium over I-70
    • New 10-foot sidewalk in center of bridge.
    • Reconstructed all sidewalks tying into interchange.
       
  • I-70 at Garth Ave.
    • Reconstructed 6-foot sidewalk under I-70.
       
  • Providence Rd. over I-70
    • New 6-foot sidewalk on west side of Providence Rd.
    • Reconstructed 8-foot sidewalk on east side of Providence Rd.
       
  • I-70 over Rangeline St.
    • Reconstructed 6-foot sidewalk on east side of Rangeline St.
    • Modified right-turn lanes at Rangeline St. ramps to improve crossing safety.
       
  • Paris Rd., Heriford Rd., and Business Loop 70
    • New 6-foot sidewalk on north side of Heriford Rd. between Burlington St. and Paris Rd.
    • New crosswalk at Paris Rd. & Heriford Rd./Whitegate Rd. intersection.
    • Reconstructed 6-foot sidewalk on east side of Paris. Rd. bridge over I-70.
    • New pedestrian bridge over I-70 on COLT RR alignment.
       
  • I-70 at Clark Lane
    • Reconstructed sidewalk on north side of Clark Ln. from Sylvan Ln. to the Hinkson Creek bridge.
