Districts Impacted
Project Summary
MoDOT is implementing a project to address the aging pavement and pedestrian facilities along Natural Bridge Rd. (Route 115) from Lucas & Hunt Rd. to the St Louis city limits. As part of the project, existing sidewalks along the corridor will be upgraded to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Constructing new sidewalks will also provide a continuous pedestrian accessible route along the corridor.
Improvements for this portion of the corridor will include:
- Pavement resurfacing and new pavement markings
- Upgrading the existing sidewalks and curb ramps to meet ADA requirements
- Replacing several existing entrances to improve the pedestrian walking paths to meet ADA requirements
- Adding additional midblock crossings and bumpouts (extends the width of the sidewalk and curb line at crosswalks and other locations to keep pedestrians safer)
- Adding additional lighting for the Pine Lawn area of the corridor
- Adding Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs)
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - July 2026
During construction, MoDOT found basements and old coal chutes underneath existing sidewalk, which is to be removed and replaced as part of the project between Rossiter and Francis Avenues. MoDOT inspected these voids underneath the existing sidewalk and the inspections were completed in June 2026. Because of this unforeseen discovery, the project is being delayed. A public meeting was held on July 7, 2026. For more information, click HERE and on the link below to view information provided during the public meeting. Due to unforeseen circumstances during construction, the project will be delayed.
What are the anticipated impacts during construction?
Most of the resurfacing work will take place overnight, with up to two lanes closed. Daytime work will include lane closures and some traffic shifts. Many of the entrances to businesses or subdivisions will be rebuilt. MoDOT and the contractor will work with residents and businesses to schedule this work and provide least disruption as possible.
Is MoDOT purchasing property from landowners?
MoDOT will need to purchase some property and/or obtain easements in order to construct the additional sidewalks and ADA improvements. A Right of Way representative will be contacting affected landowners to begin the acquisition process.
