Project Summary

MoDOT is implementing a project to address the aging pavement and pedestrian facilities along Natural Bridge Rd. (Route 115) from Lucas & Hunt Rd. to the St Louis city limits.  As part of the project, existing sidewalks along the corridor will be upgraded to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Constructing new sidewalks will also provide a continuous pedestrian accessible route along the corridor.

Improvements for this portion of the corridor will include:

  • Pavement resurfacing and new pavement markings
  • Upgrading the existing sidewalks and curb ramps to meet ADA requirements
  • Replacing several existing entrances to improve the pedestrian walking paths to meet ADA requirements
  • Adding additional midblock crossings and bumpouts (extends the width of the sidewalk and curb line at crosswalks and other locations to keep pedestrians safer)
  • Adding additional lighting for the Pine Lawn area of the corridor
  • Adding Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs)
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - July 2026

JULY 9 -- During construction, MoDOT found basements and old coal chutes underneath existing sidewalk, which is to be removed and replaced as part of the project between Rossiter and Francis Avenues. MoDOT inspected these voids underneath the existing sidewalk and the inspections were completed in June 2026.  Because of this unforeseen discovery, the project is being delayed. A public meeting was held on July 7, 2026. For more information, click HERE and on the link below to view information provided during the public meeting.

JULY 28 -- MoDOT would like to thank the public for attending the July 7 public meeting updating residents on the progress of construction on the Route 115 (Natural Bridge Road) project from Route U (Lucas-Hunt Road) to the St. Louis City limits east of Jennings Station Road.  We received 79 comments about the project with a significant majority stating the preference of keeping the original design of two lanes in each direction on Route 115 within the City of Pine Lawn and matching the rest of the project corridor.  MoDOT has determined to keep the original design and move forward with finding a solution to replace the sidewalks over existing basements and old coal chutes within this short section of the Route 115 corridor.

What are the anticipated impacts during construction?

Most of the resurfacing work will take place overnight, with up to two lanes closed. Daytime work will include lane closures and some traffic shifts. Many of the entrances to businesses or subdivisions will be rebuilt.  MoDOT and the contractor will work with residents and businesses to schedule this work and provide least disruption as possible.

Is MoDOT purchasing property from landowners?

MoDOT will need to purchase some property and/or obtain easements in order to construct the additional sidewalks and ADA improvements.  A Right of Way representative will be contacting affected landowners to begin the acquisition process.

Click HERE to view ALL of the project display boards that were shared during the July 7, 2026 public meeting.  The boards provide a construction update on the awarded plans, as well as an alternate concept.  Note:  The alternate concept only covers the Route 115 project from Ridgedale Ave. to St. Louis City limits. After you have viewed the boards, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts on the project by completing the comment form.  Comments must be received by the close of business Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
