Project Summary
This project will add passing and turn lanes on Missouri Highway 13 from south of Interstate 70 to Route V/Business 50 in Lafayette and Johnson Counties. It will also include resurfacing for MO 13.
This project has been important to the area and been a focus of the Highway 13 Coalition for many years. It was added to the Unfunded Needs list its first year in 2019 as its number one priority. It was subsequently funded with the dollars made available when the Governor’s “Focus on Bridges” freed up STIP dollars.
Project Milestones

Frequently Asked Questions:
What will be the traffic impacts?
Traffic will be marginally impacted. Lanes will need to be narrowed during the construction of the passing lanes, and the road will be closed at locations for vertical curve locations.
What changes were made since the Public Hearing in April 2022:
- Route 13 vertical curve corrections (flattening out hills) at the following locations:
- Route YY – Minor corrections to the vertical curve are about 2-3 feet on Route 13 to help sight distance. (See figures below) This change will need to close Route 13 for a couple of months during construction.
- Route H and Route E – Major corrections to the vertical curves are about 2-16 feet on Route 13 to help sight distance. (See figures below) This change will need to close Route 13 for several months during construction.
- Sight distance will be improved at every County Road and State Route. Most areas will involve cutting a tree line or regrading the slope to help with the sight distance at these roads.
- Left turn lanes on Route 13 will be added at County Road 700. (See figures below)
Updated layouts/figures show the changes for the entire project which include the above listed changes.
We are still waiting on environmental clearances but should start reaching out to property owners later this year. Because of these clearances, MoDOT is looking at the construction timeline and will update the website when this is finalized.
How is this project being funded?
