Social Media

Information shared on social media can provide information to the travelers about current or future roadway conditions.

On Twitter, Gateway Guide has two locations where drivers can get basic information.

The @MoDOT_StLouis feed shares information about planned and upcoming major work or changes on the roads MoDOT maintains in the St. Louis area interstates or state numbered and lettered routes.  It includes information on lane closures, traffic shifts, shared use path closures or road or interstate closures.  In addition, people can share concerns about the roadway (potholes, signal outages or timing concerns, roadway weather conditions) or other department issues. Unless there is a significant incident, like winter weather, the feed is monitored during normal business hours (about 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m.). Outside of those times, people can share concerns with the department’s customer service team 24/7 at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) or 314-275-1500.

The @StLouis_Traffic feed is not monitored, but shares information about real-time incidents along interstates or state numbered and lettered routes in the region. When team members monitoring traffic on MoDOT-maintained routes gets an alert (either though a traffic sensor or a report from a customer or emergency response forces) they verify it through either the live camera feed or some other method. Once the incident has been verified, the team member adds information to Gateway Guide. That information is also sent out as a tweet on the @StLouis_Traffic feed.

On Facebook, people can follow the MoDOT – St. Louis page to find out information on upcoming public meetings, lane closures, traffic shifts, shared use path closures or road or interstate closures. They can also follow and like the separate Missouri Department of Transportation page for more statewide information.  In addition, people can share concerns about the roadway (potholes, signal outages or timing concerns, roadway weather conditions) or other department issues. Unless there is a significant incident, like winter weather, the MoDOT -St. Louis Facebok page is monitored during normal business hours (about 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m.). Outside of those times, people can share concerns with the department’s customer service team 24/7 at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) or 314-275-1500.

On Instagram, people can follow the @modot-stl page for similar information as that found on Facebook and Twitter.  Like other social media platforms, Instagram is typically monitored during normal business hours.
