New and Improved SIMS

Submitted by: Central Office

Innovation Description and Benefit:

The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is one of MoDOT’s most valuable assets.  The STIP, prepared annually, sets forth the specific construction projects MoDOT will undertake in the next five years.  Without this valuable resource, our department would not be able to deliver the largest transportation program in Missouri history.  It represents MoDOT’s commitment to Missourians to deliver road and bridge work.  The STIP is produced from a computer application called the STIP Information Management System (SIMS).  The application is part of our Transportation Management System (TMS) and is new and improved allowing for easier, more-efficient functionality and much greater reporting capability.  The application houses all project data for each construction and scoping project and has been redesigned to be modernized and more user-friendly.  The modernized, more user-friendly features include such things as enhanced project location capabilities using a map, more project detail information, and budget/funding updates to more accurately reflect our asset management plans.  The system also allows the districts to use “versioning” for what/if scenarios as they develop their annual program.  The system has greater administrative functionality for the Central Office STIP team to make changes without having to ask our IS partners.  Other improvements include easier divide/balance sheet/media/amendment functionality. The new system saves valuable time and resources to produce the annual document used by both internal and external partners.
