PROJECT DETAILS

MoDOT Kansas City has replaced the existing bridge along Blue Ridge Blvd. over Route 78/23rd Street as of June 2021. The original structure was built in the 1960s and had reached the end of its usable life. This project replaced the bridge and included other roadway improvements such as:

  • Retaining walls at the north and south abutments
  • An additional left turn lane from Blue Ridge Blvd. to East 22nd Terrace
  • The resurfacing of Blue Ridge Blvd, 22nd Terrace, and 23rd. Street within the project area.
  • A wide shoulder on the east side of the bridge will accommodate a future bike lane and will also allow pedestrians to cross.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

What is the timeline for this project?

This project let in January 2020. Construction began in spring 2020 with an original anticipated completion date of fall 2020. This project was delayed due to unanticipated mechanically stabilized earth wall and water main issues. 

How much does this project cost and how is it funded?

This is a $2.8 million project and is fully funded by MoDOT.
