MoDOT opens new Blue Ridge Blvd. bridge over MO Route 78 in Independence

JACKSON COUNTY – MoDOT Kansas City has opened the brand new Blue Ridge Blvd. Bridge over MO Route 78 as of Friday, June 4. The original structure was built in the 1960s and had reached the end of its service life. This project also made roadway improvements including the addition of retaining walls, additional left turn lanes, resurfacing work, and shoulder improvements to accommodate a future bike lane and pedestrian path.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
