On April 13, 2017, the Federal Highway Administration issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for this project. Below is a copy of the final, signed FONSI.
I-270 North Environmental Assessment FONSI
Final Public Hearing Information
The final public event for the I-270 North EA was held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at McCluer High School. Attendees were able review the perferred alternative and provide feedback. Below are the handouts that were distributed at the public hearing, as well as the informational boards and video that were displayed.
The Preferred Alternative for upgrading I-270 in North St. Louis County from the I-70 interchange on the west to the Chain of Rocks Bridge on the east is presented below. The alternatives are concepts only. They are not the final plan/designs and are subject to change.
The I-270 North EA chapters are listed below and can be downloaded:
I-270 North Environmental Assessment
The Preferred Alternative establishes baseline performance measures that must be achieved in the final design. The use of performance measures allows for flexibility and innovation in final design and construction solutions. This flexibility will provide the Missouri Department of Transportation with the ability to accelerate project delivery, improve quality, reduce impacts to the traveling public, and allow for the more efficient use of taxpayer money.
Previous Planning
Prior to the I-270 North Environmental Assessment, the Missouri Department of Transportation conducted an 18-month high-level feasibility study called the I-270 North Corridor Study. It studied the area between James McDonnell Boulevard and Route 367. The feasibility study identified several problems (or concerns) along the corridor:
- Limited capacity on I-270
- Congestion; closely-space interchanges
- Poor access for metro transit users, bicyclists and pedestrians
- Confusing two-way cross-over slip ramps to Dunn Road
- Aging infrastructure
At the end of the feasibility study, MoDOT wrote a final report highlighting the needs, problems and opportunities along the I-270 North Corridor between James McDonnell Boulevard and Route 367. The conceptual drawings developed during the study illustrate the strategies for the corridor They do not indicate the exact locations or needed right-of-way for any possible further construction. During the I-270 North Environmental Assessment, the improvement concepts will be further evaluated. The final report and conceptual drawings can be downloaded here.
