Help Clean Up Missouri and Sponsor A Highway
Missouri's Sponsor-A-Highway program complements MoDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program and offers one more way for Missouri to have cleaner and safer roadsides. Groups, organizations and businesses can sponsor a highway in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas and pay a private company, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc., to clean up litter and complete other activities on their behalf.
Roadside sections included in the Sponsor-A-Highway program are cleaned at least once a month, or more if needed. Signs with the sponsor name and logo are erected on site, denoting the roadway section as a sponsored highway. The sponsors pay the contracted company based on how often the area is cleaned.
MoDOT spends about $6 million annually to clean up litter. The Adopt-A-Highway and Sponsor-A-Highway programs help offset those costs and allow the department to put more money back into maintaining Missouri's roads and bridges.
Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. has been in business for more than 20 years and also provides litter removal services in 15 other states.
MoDOT's Sponsor-A-Highway program began in 2008.
