Project Process
MoDOT is working to design this bridge project in Mercer County. The design phase includes designing the bridge structures, planning traffic control to be used during construction, right of way acquisition, if needed, and a public input period.
A virtual public meeting was held Dec. 7-21, 2020. During the virtual public meeting, MoDOT sought the public's input on the project. Input, comments and questions were accepted through Dec. 21, 2020.
Contractors may submit competitive bids during MoDOT's scheduled lettings.
The Mercer County Route D Sandy Creek project was part of the November 2021 letting.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission considers all submitted bids at their monthly scheduled meetings following a bid letting. If the lowest submitted bid meets all necessary criteria, the MHTC may award the contracts at that time.
The project was awarded at the December 2021 MHTC meeting to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc.
The Notice to Proceed is the earliest date the contractor may begin work on the project.
The Notice to Proceed date for this project, which is bundled with three other bridge projects, is Jan. 31, 2022.
The construction start date for the project is currently schedule for June 20, 2022.
By contract, the work must be complete on or before Dec. 1, 2022. The contractor currently plans to have all work complete in August 2022.
About the Sandy Creek Bridge project
The project will replace the 125-foot long, 20-foot wide Sandy Creek Bridge which was built in 1958. The one-lane, structurally-deficient bridge, which includes a load-posting for trucks over 18 tons, will be replaced with a wider, two-lane bridge that meets current standards.
