PROJECT SUMMARY
MoDOT, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration, has completed the re-evaluation process to update the Environmental Assessment (EA) of this section of Interstate 70 (I-70). Improve I-70: Boonville to Rocheport is currently in the design process with design consultant, Burns & McDonnell.
This project will add a third lane to I-70 in each direction for the 13-mile section between Missouri Route 5 in Boonville and the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River (Rocheport) Bridge. This project also includes plans to widen two I-70 bridges at MM 113 and 1.2 miles West of the Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River (Rocheport) Bridge. The project includes a cost share with the City of Boonville to add a roundabout at the Route B and Americana Dr intersection.
This project is one of several projects which will widen the I-70 corridor across the state. MoDOT plans to let this project in January 2026. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in Spring 2026 and is anticipated to be completed late 2028. Since its original construction more than 50 years ago, I-70 has been a vital lifeline for moving people, goods, and information across Missouri and beyond.

Provide a third lane of travel to eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

Improve the interstate while modernizing the existing pavement and bridges through innovation.

Increase the efficiency of freight movements along Interstate 70.

Minimize construction impacts with a focus on work zone safety, communications, and construction staging.

Expand a diverse workforce through the creation of jobs.
Public Information Meeting
- Monday, July 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Boonville High School Gymnasium located at 1 Pirate Drive, Boonville, MO 65233.
The open-house style meeting will provide the opportunity for nearby residents, businesses, and travelers to learn about and provide comments regarding the planned improvements. No formal presentation will be made. The public can come and go as they need anytime during the advertised hours. Engineers and staff from the Missouri Department of Transportation and the design consultant Burns & McDonnell will be on hand to answer questions.
Written comments may be submitted at the meeting. Those interested can also review materials and make comments on the project website beginning on Monday, July 21, until Wednesday, Aug. 20.
