What's currently underway?
The I-64 Corridor between Kingshighway and Jefferson is an essential route for homes, schools, and businesses. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has been working with the community to determine the future of the corridor in terms of needs and desired outcomes. With a major bridge reconstruction project on Interstate 64 over Vandeventer set to begin in 2026, MoDOT is continuing its evaluation and working with partners to come up with a cohesive plan to better integrate the existing roadways, interchanges, surface streets, and bicycle/pedestrian access.
MoDOT recently completed an 18-month-long Planning and Environmental Linkages study to look at how potential future projects might impact the environment, community and connectivity in the area. The department is now taking the three proposals shared with the public and determining which parts of those three proposals work best together to best meet the needs and desires of the community. Some of the elements in the final conceptual plan are not on MoDOT-maintained roadway, so the department continues to work with partners to determine how some portions of the plan may be funded and scheduled. That final conceptual plan, when it is developed, will be shared with the public later this year.
The Missouri Department of Transportation anticipates incorporating recommendations made as part of the ongoing work evaluating the I-64 corridor between Kingshighway and Jefferson into future NEPA studies, per Title 23 of the US Code, Part 168.
