Purpose of the Project: 

For the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, MoDOT lost 181 employees. This is an increase of two separations compared to the first quarter of fiscal year 2023. The slight increase is likely due to the hiring events that occurred during this timeframe.  These events provided an increase in new hires, but also resulted in an increase of separations as well.  For a twelve-month view from October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023, MoDOT separated 657 employees. In applying the Society for Human Resources Management turnover cost calculator to the separations in that twelve-month period, the hard cost of backfilling these positions was $2.67 million, the soft cost was $42.45 million, and the leave payout of turnover was $3.03 million. The total turnover cost for that twelve-month period was $48.15 million, compared to a total turnover cost of $51.76 million for the same time the previous year.
