Project Progress
MoDOT has contracted with Olsson to design a bridge deck replacement project over Lost Creek on Route A in DeKalb County. The Design Phase also includes right of way acquisition (if any) and a public input period.
The project is currently scheduled to be part of the October 2020 letting, when contractors may submit competitive bids for the project.
During its November 2020 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission may award the contract.
The Notice to Proceed date is the earliest date on which the contractor may begin work on the project. This project will have December 2020 Notice to Proceed, though the contractor may apply for an early Notice to Proceed, if they would like.
In order to safely place the new bridge deck in the shortest amount of time, the bridge will be closed to all traffic during construction. An exact date for the closure has not yet been established. After the contract is awarded, the contractor will meet with MoDOT engineers and staff to determine the closure date.
The schedule for the reopening of the bridge has not yet been determined. After the contract is awarded, the contractor will meet with MoDOT engineers and staff to determine the duration of the closure.

Old Bridge
Built in 1964, the current bridge is structurally deficient.

Planned Detour Route
A signed detour is currently planned over Routes 6, D and W .
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is MoDOT closing the road during construction?
A. Closing the road during the bridge replacement saves taxpayer money by allowing the contractor to work more efficiently and safely. This will result in a shorter construction period.
Q. How long will the road be closed?
A. The exact closure duration has not yet been established. Once the contract is awarded, the contractor will meet with MoDOT engineers and staff to determine the exact schedule, but according to estimates, it should not exceed 60 calendar days.
Q. What is the detour?
A. A signed detour is planned over Routes 6, D and W.
Q. Why not build a bypass?
A. Based on the cost/benefit ration, building a bypass would not be a prudent use of taxpayer funds. A bypass also could have negative impacts and disruption to private property.
