This project will replace both of the Bee Creek Bridges on Buchanan County Route Y. The current bridges, constructed in 1922, are listed in poor condition and have reached the end of their lifespan. The bridge located north of Missouri Route 116 was closed on March 19, 2023, due to barrier wall and overhang damage. This project was a part of the January 2023 contractor letting with construction expected to begin in 2023.
- Bee Creek Bridge: North - CLOSED - located north of Route 116 between Old Frame and Benner Lake roads. This bridge will be replaced with by another single-span bridge.
- Bee Creek Bridge: South - located south of Route 116 near the Dearborn city limits. This bridge will be replaced by a box culvert.
Project Timeline
MoDOT and their consultants are working to design the bridge replacements. This phase includes designing the bridge structures, determining traffic control to be used during construction, right of way acquisition, if needed, and a public input period.
Join us Wednesday, July 13, for an open house style public input opportunity. Designers and engineers from the Missouri Department of Transportation and their consultants will be on hand to discuss construction plans for the bridges, potential detour routes and to hear your comments and concerns about the planned projects.

Contractors may submit competitive bids during MoDOT's scheduled lettings. This project was a part of the January 2023 letting.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission considered all submitted bids at their scheduled monthly meeting in February 2023. The project was awarded to Phillips Hardy, Inc.
The contractor may begin construction as early as March 2023 and must be completed by December 2023, or they may incur liquidated damages.

Q: Why is MoDOT closing the road during construction?
A: MoDOT strives to be a good steward of taxpayer money. By closing the roadway, the contractor will be able to work more efficiently within a shorter construction period, saving taxpayer dollars and reducing the time period construction will affect motorists.
Both bridge closures may overlap during construction in an effort to reduce overall closure time.
Q: What is the detour during the bridge closure?
A: During both bridge replacements motorists will be directed around the closures via a signed detour on Route 371 from Buchanan County Route DD to Route H. Motorists can access Route Y between the two bridges by utilizing Route 116.
Q: Will MoDOT have to purchase any right of way?
A: Yes, MoDOT is currently working with local property owners regarding right of way acquisition and/or easements near the bridges.
