U.S. Route 54/Old Jefferson City Road Intersection Improvements in Callaway County
The addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes, installation of offset left turn lanes, and removal of the crossover on U.S. Route 54 at the intersection with Old Jefferson City Road/County Road 306 will help improve safety and traffic flow.
Project Milestones
The Missouri Department of Transportation and their consultants designed intersection improvements that include:
- Installing offset left-turn lanes at Old Jefferson City Road/County Road 306.
- Pavement widening of U.S. Route 54 for the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes.
- Removal of the crossover at the intersection.
The estimated cost for these improvements as of May 30, 2023, is $1.6 million. This cost may change.
Public Meeting
An open-house style public informational meeting was held Thursday, June 29, 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Fulton City Council Chambers. Fulton City Hall is located at 18 East 4th Street, Fulton, MO. Attendees were able to come and go as they please from 4:30 to 6 p.m., as there was no formal presentation. Members of the project team were there to answer questions and provide information. Exhibits were available showing the work currently being planned at the intersection.
Attendees were able to leave comments with the project team, either verbally or written. Written comments were also accepted by mail, postmarked on or before July 14, to:

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract for this work to Magruder Paving, LLC.
This intersection closed on July 15 and reopen Sept. 27. During construction, drivers traveling westbound on U.S. Route 54 and turning onto Old Jefferson City Road were routed to Route H, while eastbound U.S. Route 54 traffic turning onto County Road 306 were directed to use Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

At this time, the roadway is expected to remain open, but motorists will encounter lane closures throughout the construction process.
