What is the issue with Shrewsbury and Murdoch?
The bridges at Shrewsbury and Murdoch were built in 1969. Both of the bridges at Shrewsbury and Murdoch should be replaced. While they are being replaced, this is the perfect opportunity to evaluate ways to upgrade the intersections to better meet modern traffic needs.
Shrewsbury and Murdoch act as one big interchange. Although you can’t enter and exit I-44 in all directions at either Shrewsbury or Murdoch, you can travel the short distance (1 mile) to get on or off the interstate, as appropriate.
This interchange was designed long before the Shrewsbury Metrolink Lane was established, as well as other significant growth in the area, and should be reviewed to see if there are ways to modernize it and make it better serve the people in the Shrewsbury and Webster Groves area.
Currently, the bridge at Shrewsbury carries 16,800 vehicles daily, while the Murdoch bridge carries roughly 8,000 vehicles.
