Keeping interstates free-flowing is a top priority for MoDOT, but sometimes unplanned incidents affect the department’s ability to keep the interstates moving.
Motorists want to travel through work zones with as little inconvenience as possible. MoDOT tries to minimize travel impacts by shifting work to times when there are fewer impacts to the traveling public.

MoDOT owns and maintains 50 truck parking, rest area and welcome center facilities, with 19 being rest areas and welcome centers.
MoDOT has identified 37,275 barriers within its right of way that must be repaired or built to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A transition plan is in place to address these barriers by August 2027.
