MoDOT: Sunshine Street Safety and Operational Improvements Project in Greene County

To Begin the Week of November 2

Springfield, Greene County – A project to improve traffic flow, upgrade sidewalks and signals to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, and resurface along Greene County Route D (East Sunshine Street) between Business 65 (Glenstone Avenue) in Springfield and Farm Road 199 east of Springfield to begin the week of November 2, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The project includes sidewalk installation and upgrades, entrance upgrades, curb and gutter, and signal upgrades at various locations to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Crews to install a new Hawk Signal east of Woodward Avenue. HAWK signals are traffic signals that allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Find more information about Hawk signals here.

At times, crews will remove portions of sidewalks and entrances, temporarily replacing them with gravel while new pavement is installed. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when traveling over these gravel surfaces at driveways and business entrances. Contractor crews are coordinating closely with each business to ensure that access remains open throughout construction.

Traffic can expect short-term lane closures and traffic shifts where crews are working.

Contractor crews are scheduled to begin work on the north side of Route D (Sunshine Street), starting at U.S. Route 65 and working to the west toward Glenstone Avenue.
