A project to replace the 89-year-old historic pony truss Shoal Creek Bridge is complete. L.G. Barcus and Sons, Inc. working with the Missouri Department of Transportation began the bridge replacement project in March 2023, and the roadway was reopened to all traffic on Oct. 10, 2023.
Project Progress
Due to its deteriorating condition, MoDOT's Planning and Design team, along with a consultant, designed a bridge replacement project for the bridge over Shoal Creek on Livingston County Route C.
Our team has worked closely with the Canadian Pacific Railroad, as they have a project planned which will raise their tracks at the north end of the Shoal Creek Bridge. Once the bridge is replaced and reopened to traffic, the railroad’s project may require reduced speeds between the bridge and railroad while a permanent transition piece is built between the north end of the bridge and the raised tracks.
The project was part of MoDOT's Nov. 18, 2022, letting, when contractors submitted competitive bids for the project.
At their December 2022 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $2,260,124.03 contract to L. G. Barcus and Sons, Inc. to complete the bridge replacement project.
The earliest date on which the contractor could begin work is Feb. 6, 2023.
The contractor began construction in March 2023, and work was completed on Oct. 10, 2023.
