About this Project

The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety along the I-49 corridor in Jackson and Cass Counties.  The project is scheduled to be let in November 2027 with construction beginning in Spring 2028. Detailed traffic impacts are yet to be determined, but it’s likely that lane closures would impact traffic flow during the project construction. 

Details

Widening, Adding Lanes, and Pavement Operations

  • Add an additional lane in both directions on I-49 from 155th Street to the MO 58 interchange in Cass County.
  • Replacement of existing pavement and the widening of the existing bridges at 163rd Street in Cass County.
  • Replacement of existing pavement between MO 150 and 155th Street in Jackson County.
  • Adding continuous auxiliary lanes in both directions between MO 150 and 155th Street in Jackson County.

Bridge Replacements

While safe to travel on the existing bridges have reached the end of their service life. 

  • Conduct a bridge replacement on I-49 over the Little Blue River in Jackson County.
  • Conduct a bridge replacement on I-49 and MO 58 in Cass County. 

Interchange and Roadway Improvements

MoDOT will conduct interchange and roadway improvements at I-49 and MO 58 in Cass County.

This project is in the early stages of development, with more details to be shared at a public meeting anticipated in the fall of 2025.
