JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Cooper County Route Z overpass bridge over Interstate 70 is set to close on Wednesday, June 10, for crews to perform boring operations as part of Improve I-70: Concordia to Boonville.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation anticipate closing the overpass bridge from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. Motorists will need to use an alternate route around the closure.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Motorists are asked to use caution and pay extra attention through the work zone.
Bridge borings allow for a detailed examination of the geology below the surface. By studying the samples obtained, the program team can make more informed decisions on design and material elements regarding bridge structures as they work to expand I-70 to three lanes in each direction across Missouri.
This work is part of Improve I-70: Concordia to Boonville, the eighth project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Construction on this section of I-70 is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Missouri’s FY2024 budget approved through the state legislative process and governor provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
