JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES – Missouri Department of Transportation staff along with several other project staff are working together to prep for the blast of the middle arch of the existing previous structure of the Buck O’Neil Bridge. The second blast will take place the week of April 1-5. More details will be shared once a date is finalized. As part of this event, there will be intermittent closures on northbound U.S. 169 from 5th Street to Richards Road. This is the second of three blasts taking place to bring down the entire bridge. This event is closed to the public for safety purposes, but videos of the blast will be available for viewing after the event MoDOT KC Facebook page. The third blast will take place during the month of May.
The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.
