Carroll County Route E (Benton Street) Bridge over U.S. Route 65 now open

ST. JOSEPH, Mo – A bridge rehabilitation project on Route E (Benton Street) Bridge over U.S. Route 65 is now complete. Crews from Capital Paving and Construction, LLC, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, completed the project which began in February 2023.

During construction, temporary traffic signals were in place to guide motorists through the single-lane work zone. Crews removed the traffic signals and reopened the southbound on/off ramps to Benton Street today, Friday, July 7, opening the bridge to two-way traffic.

This bridge is part of a larger project which is rehabilitating six bridges along U.S. Route 24. The remaining two bridges are expected to finish construction in 2023:

  • U.S. Route 24 over BNSF Railroad just east of the U.S. Route 65 interchange. Scheduled to be completed in August.
  • U.S. Route 24 over Little Wakenda Creek east of Carrollton. Scheduled to be completed in August.

Three bridges have been completed:

  • U.S. Route 24/65 over Old U.S. Highway 24/Outer Road 24 and the BNSF railroad, located south of the Benton Street Bridge.
  • U.S. Route 24/65 over Moss Creek Drainage Ditch, approximately 4 miles south of Route 10.
  • U.S. Route 24/65 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Outer Road 24 and Missouri 10.
