SIKESTON – Route 153 in New Madrid County will be closed as contractor crews replace a bridge over Drainage Ditch #8. The bridge is located between County Road 253 and County Road 243/Route B near Tallapoosa, Missouri.
Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 13 through Friday, June 30.
Motorists should be aware this is the second bridge to be replaced on Route 153. The other bridge is located over Drainage Ditch #44, with a closure extending between County Road 535/341 and Route B. Construction of this bridge will be underway Tuesday, Feb. 28 through Wednesday, May 31, weather permitting.
Completing construction of the bridges simultaneously will minimize the duration of traffic impacts. However, the full length of the closure will extend from County Road 253 to County Road 535/341 as construction of the two projects overlaps. County Road 243 will be accessible from Route B to the town of Tallapoosa, Missouri.
The bridges are included in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Bootheel Bridge Bundle design-build project, which will improve 17 bridges throughout Southeast Missouri. Completion of the Bootheel Bridge Bundle design-build project is anticipated on or before Dec. 31, 2023. The design-build project website is available at https://www.modot.org/bootheel-bridge-bundle.
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
