Road resurfacing to begin on flood damaged Atchison and Holt county routes

St. Joseph, Mo. – A project to resurface several Atchison and Holt county flood-damaged roadways is expected to begin next week. Crews from Herzog Contracting Corp.,working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, plan to begin grading operations on Monday, April 12, following the below schedule with paving scheduled to begin in late may.

Monday, April 12:

  • Holt/Atchison County Route 111 – from Route 111 Spur (Holt County) to Route E (Atchison County)

Early May:

  • Holt County Route W – from Intestate 29 to Route 111
  • Atchison County Route Z – from Interstate 29 west to the end of route

Mid-June:

  • Atchison County Route E
  • Atchison County Route U – from Route E south to end of route

Early July:

  • Atchison County Route D
  • Atchison County Route V

Paving operations are expected to progress from Holt/Atchison County Route 111 north in the same order as grading.

During the grading and paving operations, the roadway will be reduced to one lane with flaggers and a pilot car directing motorist through the work zone. Drivers entering from a side road onto the route being resurfaced must also wait for a pilot car.

Crews plan to have all routes resurfaced by late September. All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change.

Motorists are urged to stay alert and pay attention to all roadway signing and barricades and to eliminate distractions. Crews will be working close to traffic. Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive.
