As of the weekend of Feb. 21, 2020, crews have demolished the old I-435 bridges over I-70. Motorists (both north and southbound) are currently driving on the new southbound I-435 bridge. Once crews have completed the new northbound bridge, traffic will be shifted to their correct configuration with three lanes in each direction.
The eastbound I-70 off ramp to Blue Ridge Cutoff has been closed until summer 2020. Motorists needing to access Blue Ridge Cutoff from eastbound I-70 are advised to exit I-70 at 31st Street/US Highway 40 and continue east until intersecting with Blue Ridge Cutoff. This closure will impact fans trying to access Kauffman Stadium.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, crews closed the northbound I-435 ramp to westbound I-70. These ramps were demolished and will be rebuilt in a new configuration scheduled to be complete in summer 2020.

MoDOT officially kicked off construction on March 7, 2019
This project was awarded to Emery Sapp and Sons. Construction will begin in Spring, 2019.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
MoDOT is replacing the bridges within the I-435 and I-70 interchange. In addition to the new bridges, crews will be enhancing the safety of the interchange overall with a new design. This new configuration will be a partial turbine and provides an opportunity to make additional safety improvements in a cost-effective manner. Improvements include full bridge replacements, removal of the less traditional left exits, improvements to loop ramp configuration, and congestion relief.
This project was identified as one of the possible improvements to ease congestion and crashes often caused by merging and weaving in the I-70 Environmental Impact Study.
Emery Sapp and Sons is the main contractor on this project. Construction began in March 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by December 2020. This is a $47 million project and is fully funded by MoDOT.

Crews have OPENED the NEW ramp from northbound I-435 to westbound I-70 as of July 23, 2020.
The ramp was previously closed until new structures were completed in July 2020. The suggested detour route was:

Motorists should then continue on Manchester Trafficway to U.S. Highway 40. Turn west onto U.S. Highway 40 and follow the detour to the westbound I-70 on-ramp.
GAME DAY IMPACTS - ARROWHEAD STADIUM
Kansas City Chiefs fans will be happy to learn that access to Arrowhead Stadium will return to normal this NFL season. MoDOT Kansas City and the Kansas City Chiefs have worked together to make traffic during game days at Arrowhead Stadium as safe and efficient as possible during the construction of the new I-435 and I-70 interchange. This project is anticipated to finish ahead of schedule, weather permitting.
Motorists will, however, notice work continuing on throughout this month that may impact travelers during the first game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 10. Be aware that ramps at Manchester Trafficway and I-70 will be open before and after the first game to help alleviate congestion from fans going to and leaving the stadium. These ramps are currently closed until the project is completed and will be open for the game on Thursday, Sept. 10. Fans should also be aware that this game will coincide with the daily rush hour and traffic volumes may be heavy. Please be patient and considerate to other motorists.
