Narrative Description
The Hulston Mill Bridge (#1960005) on Country Road 201/ Highway EE over the Sac River is a 1927 steel and concrete, camelback, Pratt pony truss bridge with six panels, and a steel stringer approach span with concrete abutments and wing walls. When the bridge was inventoried in 1993, it was recommended as eligible for the NRHP as a well-preserved, long-span example of an uncommon bridge type. The Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) Missouri Historic Bridge Inventory form for the Hulston Mill Bridge, Fraser (1991) pointed out that this bridge is just one of sixteen rigid-connected camelback pony truss bridges. Among these, the Hulston Mill Bridge exhibited structural integrity and is well-preserved with a high level of documentation. The 2003 Missouri Historic Bridge List concurred with Fraser, and SHPO determined that the bridge was eligible for the NRHP, MoDOT reaffirmed the prior determination of eligibility and noted that absent a significant loss of integrity since the 2003 determination, it should be assumed that the property remains eligible for the NRHP under Criterion C.
The Dade County Commision is now accepting proposals for the relocation and reuse of the bridge or its components until March 31, 2026. A proposal checklist is available MoDOT’s Free Bridges website (http://www.modot.org/freebridges/). Preservation covenants may accompany the bridge.
Return the form, along with 2-3 jpeg images of the bridge, to the MoDOT Historic Preservation Section at least 3 months prior to the end of the marketing period and at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the marketing period.
