MoDOT has designed a bridge rehabilitation project of the northbound and southbound I-35 bridges over Pole Cat Creek in Harrison County.

The current project design includes various updates and repairs including: resurfacing the bridge deck, repair and/or replace curbs, repair and resurface the roadway approach to the bridge and rehabilitate the bridge ends.

The bridges are a part of Gov. Mike Parson's $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

The project was part of the August 2021 letting, when contractors submitted competitive bids for the projects.

During the September 2021 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract to Widel, Inc.

Construction Begins

The contractor began work on March 15, 2022.

There are two stages of construction planned, both with long-term lane closures:

  1. March - June: The northbound and southbound passing lanes (inside, left lanes) will be closed
  2. June - October: The northbound and southbound driving lanes (outside, right lanes) will be closed

Per contract, the contractor must complete all construction on/by Oct. 1, 2022. 

 

The contractor reopened all lanes of traffic, both directions, on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.

The Harrison County I-35 northbound and southbound bridges over Pole Cat Creek were last updated in 1991. A: No, the contractor will not have to close I-35. During construction traffic will be narrowed to one lane through the work zone. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place.
