Frequently Asked Questions
What was the purpose of this project?
The purpose of this project is to make intersection improvements on Boone County Route M (Broadway Street) and Henry Clay Boulevard in Ashland. The City of Ashland previously conducted a traffic study of this intersection, funded through the Traffic Engineering Assistance Program (TEAP). Due to the skew of the intersection and associated right of way costs to improve the intersection, it was determined a roundabout would be the most economical solution.
Why was this work necessary?
The former intersection of Route M/Broadway and Henry Clay Boulevard is an all-way, stop-controlled intersection. Due to the increasing growth of Ashland, the traffic volumes were causing this intersection to function less efficiently. The roundabout improves motorist and pedestrian safety and provides improved traffic flow at the intersection. The sidewalks at the roundabout were constructed in compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
How was the project funded?
This was a cost share project initiated by the City of Ashland. The City of Ashland was responsible for the engineering costs and 50% of the total project costs. MoDOT's responsibility included acquiring the right of way, letting the project and construction inspection, as well as 50% of the project costs. The city is responsible for any costs over the programmed amount for the project.
