MHTC Approves Roadway Improvement Cost Share Project in Ashland

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) approved a contract to improve the intersection of Boone County Route M and Henry Clay Boulevard in Ashland.

The project will include construction of a roundabout and sidewalks at the intersection. The improvements are the result of a traffic study of the intersection. The study found a roundabout to be the most economical solution to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians.

The low bid of $1,571,073 was submitted by Sam Gaines Construction. This is a cost share project with the City of Ashland. The city is responsible for the engineering costs and 50 percent of the total project costs. MoDOT is responsible for acquiring the right of way, letting the project and construction inspection, as well as 50 percent of the project costs.

Work is expected to take place this summer. When a start date is established, MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media.
