The project includes removing the current median crossovers on U.S. 67 at Routes A and C and installing J-turns. During the meeting, MoDOT will share two alternatives for J-turns at these intersections. 

With a J-turn, motorists will no longer cross fast-moving lanes of traffic. Drivers at a J-turn intersection turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel. 

This is a safety improvement project. J-turn intersections have been shown to reduce right angle crashes, also known as T-bone crashes. This crash type is most responsible for fatalities and serious injuries at intersections. In fact, J-turns at similar intersections throughout Missouri and the nation have shown a substantial decrease in fatal and serious injury crashes.

Tentatively, the project is expected to be let in March 2026. Construction could begin as early as May 2026. Completion is anticipated by early 2027.

An in-person public meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Centertown City Hall from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions, provide information, and receive direct feedback on construction staging and answer questions from the community. There will be no formal presentation, so members of the public can come and go as they please. By participating and commenting, the public can help MoDOT determine what best serves the needs of the roughly 1,500 motorists who use the bridge on an average day while being responsible stewards of available funding. 

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve two bridges in Scott and Cape Girardeau Counties. The bridge projects include:  

• Replacing the Route C bridge over St. John’s Drainage Ditch, located between County Road 407 and County Road 425 east of Morley, Missouri in Scott County.
• Rehabilitating the Route BB bridge over Caney Creek, located between County Road 476 and County Road 481 in Cape Girardeau County.

Monday, July 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Boonville High School Gymnasium located at 1 Pirate Drive, Boonville, MO 65233.

The open-house style meeting will provide the opportunity for nearby residents, businesses, and travelers to learn about and provide comments regarding the planned improvements. No formal presentation will be made. The public can come and go as they need anytime during the advertised hours. Engineers and staff from the Missouri Department of Transportation and the design consultant Burns & McDonnell will be on hand to answer questions.

Written comments may be submitted at the meeting. Those interested can also review materials and make comments on the project website beginning on Monday, July 21,  until Wednesday, Aug. 20.

This project is part of the Forward 44 Planning Study.. The meeting will be held at the Joplin Public Library.

The Southwest District’s Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle will replace or rehabilitate up to 20 poor condition bridges in west central Missouri and bring them up to current standards. The public meeting will be held at the Osceola Elementary School.

The Missouri Route 14 Widening Project will widen Route 14 to five lanes between 6th Avenue and 14th Avenue in Ozark. The public meeting will be held at the Christian County Ambulance District Conference Room.

The Melville Road (Farm Road 127) Bridge Replacement Project in Springfield public meeting will be held at The Library Station: Santa Fe Community Room.
