Safe and Sound Community Briefing in Stoddard County to Discuss Route N Castor River Bridge Improvements

SIKESTON- To help the public understand more about upcoming "Safe and Sound" bridge projects in their areas, MoDOT will be conducting open-house community briefings.  The next community briefing will be held Thursday, August 27 to discuss the Route N bridge replacement in Stoddard County.  The meeting will be held in the Dexter High School auditorium, 1101 West Grant St., from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  MoDOT staff will be on-hand to discuss details about the project plans.

The plans include replacing the deck of the Route N Bridge over Castor River in Stoddard County.  During construction, Route N will be closed to traffic near the bridge.

Construction could begin as early as November 2009, with work taking approximately six weeks.

Other similar community briefings will be planned and announced for the remaining bridges in Southeast Missouri as the planned construction at each location approaches.  There are 86 bridges in the Southeast District that are currently in "Safe and Sound" program.  These bridges are identified throughout Southeast Missouri with the "Safe and Sound" logo signs near the bridges. These "Safe and Sound" signs identify these bridges as being some of Southeast District's poorest condition bridges-but these bridges will be repaired or replaced within the next five years.

Work zones will be marked with signs as improvements are underway.  Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling near work zones and to plan for possible delays.
