Project Details
The project consists of an asphalt overlay from Farmington, Missouri to Pilot Knob, Missouri with a 4200’ section of new roadway being built near Henson Road at Doe Run, Missouri. The new section of roadway will replace five existing curves with two more gradual curves and provide less steep vertical grades.
Project Update:
The new section of roadway has been constructed. The asphalt overlay from Farmington to Pilot Knob is anticipated to begin in spring 2025.
Project Timeline
Clearing work is being completed in preparation for this project. There will be minimal impacts to traffic. Flaggers may be necessary at times as equipment is unloaded.
Spring 2025, tentatively
Route 221 in St. Francois County will be closed as construction is underway. This section of roadway is located between Old Vandergriff Road and Howell Road near Doe Run, Missouri.
Weather permitting, work will take place Wednesday, Aug. 21 through Friday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. The road will remain closed until the work is completed. A marked detour will be in place.
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
Click here to view a full version of the detour map. A signed detour will be available. More details regarding access and detour routes during construction are included below:
- Residents will always have access to Henson Road from Route 221. During this phase of the project, it is unnecessary to construct a temporary road to provide access to Henson. As the project progress, we will construct temporary road for Henson to continually maintain access to 221. Please note Henson Road will remain a dead end road and will not be connected to Effin Road and/or Buck Mountain Road.
- Howell Road will also maintain access to Route 221 and the signed detour throughout the project.
- Construction of a temporary access road is underway to facilitate residents who live within the closed area, down to Parcel 6, but it is not a way for motorists to travel through the project limits. Signed detour routes are available to navigate around the project limits.
- Additional signage will be added to clarify the detour route. The signed detour coming from Farmington is to take Highway B from 221 over to Highway 32 to Highway N to Highway NN and back to Route 221. An additional set of barriers and signs will also be added at the intersection of Routes 221 and NN.
