The project is proposed to replace the Missouri Route 124 bridge over Grindstone Creek. The bridge is located west of Route 63 in northern Boone County. The new bridge will be six feet wider and will be built on new alignment immediately to the south of the existing bridge. Construction is scheduled to be awarded in the fall of 2018 with construction taking place in 2019.
Route 124 will remain open during construction of the new bridge until work is necessary to tie the new alignment to the existing roadway. At that time, Route 124 will be closed for a short period of time to complete this final grading and paving work. Alternate routes will be available during this phase of the construction.
The total cost is approximately $1.0 million.
Is Right of Way Needed?
Approximately 1.5 acres of new permanent right of way needs to be acquired from two property owners and approximately 0.4 acres of temporary easements will be necessary from four property owners.
Why is this work necessary?
The existing Grindstone Creek Bridge was built in 1932 and is 86 years old. The condition of the bridge has reached a point where replacement is necessary.
