Public Hearing for Improvements to Route B in Ste. Genevieve County

SIKESTON-To help the public understand more about upcoming improvements to Route B in Ste. Genevieve County, MoDOT will hold a public hearing.  The hearing will be held on Thursday, May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at MoDOT's Ste. Genevieve Maintenance Shed, 17651 Route 32.

The meeting will have an open-house format, so visitors can stop by to talk one-on-one with a member of the project team anytime between 4 and 7 p.m.  No formal presentation will be given.

The project will involve resurfacing and shoulder improvements on Route B from Route 32 to Coffman, as well as replacing the River Aux Vases Bridge.

As the River Aux Vases Bridge is being replaced, it will be necessary to close the bridge for approximately 70 days.

"One of the purposes of the public hearing is to gather input about the most appropriate time to make improvements to the bridge," said Project Manager Andy Meyer.

If the project is awarded by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in February 2010, work could begin immediately.

"MoDOT's contractor could begin making improvements to the bridge in February or the bridge closure could be scheduled closer to the project's anticipated completion date in fall 2010," said Meyer.  "By gaining community input, it is our hope to minimize the impact on the community as much as possible."
