Districts Impacted
Project Summary
The intersection needs to be restructured because triangle intersections have more contact points that have a higher probability to cause accidents than a T. In the last ten years there have been a total of 13 crashes at the intersection, one serious injury crash that injured two people, three minor injury crashes that injured six people, and nine property damage only crashes.

A project to realign the intersection and add dedicated turning lanes is currently being designed by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Comments are also accepted through the US Mail, postmarked by Dec. 13, to Howard County U.S. Route 40 & Missouri Route 5 Intersection c/o MoDOT, 1511 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO, 65109.
The project is currently scheduled to be part of MoDOT's May 2025 letting when contractors may submit competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission may award the contract as part of their June 2025 meeting. If the contract is awarded at that time, a notice to proceed date will also be given. That is the earliest date the contractor may begin work.
The intersection is expected to remain open with minimal impact to traffic during construction.
At this time, construction is anticipated to be completed by Dec. 1, 2025.
