Districts Impacted
The 214-foot long Howard County Bonne Femme Creek Bridge on Route P, in New Franklin, was built in 1961 and carries approximately 650 vehicles per day. The supporting structures of the bridge are in good condition, but the deck of the bridge has deteriorated to the point it needs to be replaced. During the project, the bridge will be widened from 22 feet to 24 feet. The bridge will be closed during the project and motorists will need to use an alternate route.
PROJECT PROGRESS
The Missouri Department of Transportation and a consultant team are designing a project to replace the bridge deck. The estimated total cost (engineering and construction) for this project is $910,000. This cost may change.
The current scope of planned work includes replacing the bridge deck, bridge painting, tapering existing roadway shoulders to meet the new bridge and adding new guardrail.

All available exhibits regarding the project to replace the Bonne Femme Creek Bridge deck rehabilitation project can be viewed using the links below.
The project was part of MoDOT's January 2024 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $481,924.00 contract to Gene Haile Excavating, Inc. at their February 2024 meeting. At that time, a notice to proceed date of March 4, 2024, was also given. That was the earliest date the contractor may begin work.
At this time, construction is anticipated to begin May 28, 2024, when the contractor will close the road to all traffic. The contractor is allowed up to 85 calendar days to complete the bridge deck replacement and reopen the road. They anticipate Route P reopening on or before Aug. 20, 2024. By contract, the job must be completed by Dec. 1, 2024. During the closure, motorists will need to use an alternate route.
