Northbound Interstate 29 Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation over U.S. Route 169 in Clay County

Details

• The I-29 bridge replacement/rehabilitation project in Clay County will include the replacement of the northbound I-29 bridge over NB U.S. 169 and the rehabilitation of the NB I-29 bridge over SB U.S. 169. Construction is scheduled to take place - January 2026 to November 2026.
• This project was originally going to be staged construction with both bridges set to undergo a rehabilitation. On further inspection, it was determined that the NB I-29 bridge over NB U.S. 169 was nearing the end of its service life and needed to be replaced. The project now requires a full closure for the replacement and rehabilitation.

Traffic Impacts

• The northbound I-29 bridge will be closed for around 3 months in late winter/early spring and will open to traffic by June 1, 2026.
• Northbound U.S. 169 will be closed for a weekend while the northbound I-29 bridge is demolished.
• Both bridges will be open with no traffic impacts before World Cup events begin in June 2026. 

Detour

• NB I-29 will be closed, and traffic will be detoured onto NB US 169 to WB MO 152.
• The U.S. 69 to NB I-29 ramps will be closed for the detour.
• Potential for various lane closures on SB U.S. 169 throughout the bridge rehabilitation.
