Project Summary
The Missouri Route 47 bridge over Mill Creek in Washington County, north of Potosi, was constructed in 1965, is narrow, and the deck is in poor condition. A project is currently in the planning and design stage that will replace the current bridge deck with a wider one, bring the bridge rails up to current safety standards, and install new guardrail at the ends of the bridge. These improvements will enhance safety, drivability, and traffic flow.
Project Progress
This project was part of MoDOT's March 2025 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract as part of their April 2025 meeting. The $798,000 contract was awarded to UTD, LLC. The notice to proceed was May 5, 2025.
Construction is expected to begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025. The contractor will close Route 47 at the bridge with a signed detour over Routes 67, 8, and 21. The roadway is expected to reopen in mid-November.

Why is MoDOT replacing the bridge?
The existing Route 47 bridge over Mill Creek was built in 1965, and the deck needs to be replaced. The bridge width, bridge rail, and guardrail need to be upgraded. The deck is in poor condition, but the substructure is in good condition. The new bridge deck and rail will improve the drivability and safety for motorists.
How will the new bridge construction affect traffic?
The current plan will close the bridge to all traffic through the completion of the project up to 60 calendar days (updated from the previously announced 110 calendar days). The contractor plans to close the road Sept. 16, 2025, through mid-November. A signed detour will be posted over Routes 67, 8, and 21.
