What is the current situation?

As part of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), MoDOT budgeted an estimated $12.2 million for the construction of the safety and congestion improvements along the Route 50 interchange east of Union.  The Route 50/AT Intersection was built in 1974 and due to age of the corridor, improvements are needed. Traffic along Route 50/AT intersection is steadily increasing and crash rates are higher than the statewide average compared to similar intersections.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will modify and update the Route 50 /AT interchange, upgrade lighting at Route 50 interchange east of Union, and upgrade signage and guardrail from 0.4 mile west of Rte. AT to I-44.  MoDOT is currently reviewing various conceptual alternatives to complete these changes.

The project team consisting of EFK and MoDOT, will be meeting with stakeholders, local residents, elected officials, and other community partners to identify issues at this intersection.

Traffic Data Collection & Analysis
Began Summer 2023

The Missouri Department of Transportation held a value engineering workshop in February 2024 to investigate solutions to review traffic counts including intersection turning movements along the corridor.

In April 2024, the Final Value Engineering Report was conducted.

More traffic analysis and reviews of potential conceptual alternatives are currently in progress and will continue as MoDOT and EFK reviews data and public input.
