MoDOT holds public meeting Oct. 21 to discuss eastbound I-64 work in city of St. Louis

Includes full eastbound interstate closure between Vandeventer and Compton for year

ST. LOUIS – A planned year-long closure of eastbound I-64 between Vandeventer and Compton is about one year away.

People who live, work, commute and recreate along Interstate 64/U.S. Route 40 between Vandeventer and Compton in the city of St. Louis may want to participate in an upcoming public meeting on October 21 to provide their comments and concerns as engineers wrap up plans for a portion of I-64 in the city.

The closure is to allow crews to remove and replace the elevated section of the eastbound interstate between Vandeventer and Compton and to make updates to the connection between the eastbound interstate and Grand, starting in 2027.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and its community partners, will be hosting an open-house style public meeting October 21. The meeting will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. at 18 Rails, City Foundry, 3700 Foundry Way, St. Louis, MO 63110. There will be no formal presentation and participants can attend anytime.

During the meeting, engineers will be available to discuss upcoming construction plans for the I-64/Route 40 corridor between Vandeventer and Compton set to start in 2027. The planned work includes:

  • Roughly a year-long closure of eastbound I-64/Route 40 between Vandeventer and Compton Avenue to remove and replace the eastbound interstate bridge,
  • An updated interchange of eastbound I-64 at Grand, including a new roundabout that will serve Grand and Compton,
  • Rehabilitation of the westbound I-64 bridge between Compton and Boyle, and
  • Widening of the Compton Avenue bridge over I-64 for additional bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

For those who cannot attend the in-person open house, information will be available on-line at Funded Interstate 64 Construction in St. Louis City | Missouri Department of Transportation the day of the meeting.

People who require reasonable accommodation to fully participate in this event can contact Andrew Gates before Friday, October 16 at Andrew.Gates@modot.mo.gov or call or text 314-223-8003.

This work is part of the recommendations made from a recent study of the I-64 central corridor in the city of St. Louis called: Future64: Community. Transportation. Together. Insight from the community has been and continues to be an important element in this project, helping ensure that a wide range and variety of voices are heard, and that safety for all users is the focus of the recommended concept. Public participation in this meeting continues to drive the plans of making the Future 64 vision a reality. The information shared by the stakeholders, residents and other users of the corridor have helped determine the scope of work along the corridor.
