MoDOT starts project to improve Route 94 safety

MoDOT, local leaders kick off project start with groundbreaking

ST.LOUIS – The Missouri Department of Transportation along with local and state leaders will commemorate the start of Route 94 and South Breeze safety improvements on Thursday, July 25 at 9 a.m.

The ground breaking ceremony will be held in the parking lot next to Dairy Queen on Independence Rd.

The safety improvements include closing the crossover and left turn traffic at Route 94 and South Breeze. Drivers will use special turns, called J-turns. They will turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel. Although drivers will have to travel slightly further to get to their destination, J-turns can take the same or less time than trying to wait for a safe gap in traffic. The J-turns will be at Independence. Rd. and between South Breeze and Wolfrum Rd. By making these changes, the design is expected to reduce serious crashes.

MoDOT selected contractor, R.V. Wagner, Inc. will start construction at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019. The project is scheduled to be completed later this year.
