Rolling roadblocks on I-70 near Missouri River this week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – For the safety of the traveling public, multiple rolling roadblocks are planned this week on Interstate 70 near the Missouri River. Blasting operations are scheduled for 2 p.m. April 28 and 2 p.m. May 1 as part of Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia.

Contractors working with the Missouri Department of Transportation will use explosives to blast portions of the rock alongside the interstate between Boone County Route BB and the Missouri River. Due to the debris field these blasts will create, short-term closure of the ramp from Route BB onto westbound I-70 and rolling interstate roadblocks will be required. These short-term operations are anticipated to last for 15 minutes each.

For everyone’s safety, during these blasting operations, there will be no viewing area for the public or media.

All work is weather-permitting and subject to change. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention in work zones. Buckle Up. Phone Down.

This work is part of Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia, one project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Construction on this section of I-70 is scheduled to begin in 2026.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget approved through the state legislative process and governor provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
