Route Z to narrow to one lane in western Cooper County this Saturday

Part of preparations for Improve I-70: Concordia to Boonville project

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Cooper County Route Z will narrow to one lane at the bridge over Interstate 70 this Saturday, April 18, for bridge boring operations as part of Improve I-70: Concordia to Boonville. Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation will flag traffic through the single-lane work zone, which is scheduled to be in place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 18.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Motorists are asked to use caution and pay extra attention through the work zone.

Bridge borings allows for a detailed examination of the geology below the surface. By studying the samples obtained, the program team can make more informed decisions on design and material elements regarding bridge structures as they work to expand I-70 to three lanes in each direction across Missouri.

MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones.

All work is weather-permitting and subject to change. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention in work zones. Buckle Up. Phone Down.

This work is part of Improve I-70: Concordia to Boonville, the eighth project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program. Construction on this section of I-70 is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget approved through the state legislative process and governor provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
