ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Interstate 29 in St. Joseph is scheduled to be narrowed to one lane overnight beginning Wednesday, April 15, for girder placement on the Gene Field Road Bridge. Clarkson Construction Company, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will narrow the southbound lanes and utilize short-term rolling closures while crews set the new bridge girders. Motorists will experience delays.
Traffic Impacts: Southbound I-29 will be narrowed to one lane at the Gene Field Road Bridge construction site from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. The contractor, in coordination with local law enforcement, will use rolling closures to stop traffic for up to 15 minutes between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. A 10.6-foot width restriction will be in place.
Crews are scheduled to place the girders over the northbound lanes overnight Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29.
The Gene Field Bridge replacement project will widen the bridge and replace its driving surface as well as add pedestrian sidewalks to the north and south sides of the bridge. This project is scheduled to be completed by July 2026.
