ST. LOUIS – As temperatures warm up around the greater St. Louis region, work on construction projects on interstates and state numbered and lettered routes rk is starting to spin up on several projects around the greater St. Louis region.
This year, the department is starting roughly 18 bridge projects and more than 30 projects to update and resurfacing sidewalks, totaling nearly $400 million in work, as well as continuing constructions on other projects in the region.
Here are some of the major construction projects drivers can expect:
- Interstate 44 corridor improvements – There are several projects along I-44 in Franklin County and St. Louis county. They update the weigh scale and rest areas, update signing and guardrails and make pavement repairs between Sullivan and Route 30 in St. Clair and make pavement repairs along I-44 in Franklin County and in St. Louis County.
- I-55 bridge and pavement improvements – (FINISHES SOON) This project resurfaces I-55 between I-44 and Lindbergh. This year, crews will complete any remaining rehabilitation on the southbound I-55 bridge over Union Pacific Railroad and then resurface portions of the interstate and associated interchanges. Bridge work should be complete in early April and resurfacing should be completed in summer 2026.
- Interstate 55 at the Meramec River bridge rehabilitation – This project makes bridge improvements to the northbound and southbound interstate over the Meramec River and washes the bridge.
- Interstate 55 corridor improvement project – This project continues work to update the interchanges at Route Z, McNutt and U.S. Route 67 as well as adding a third interstate lane in each direction between Pevely and Festus.
- I-64 outer road bridge replacement (FINISHES SOON) – Bridge replacement and roadway improvements on the I-64 outer road at Dardenne Creek. The outer road will be closed with a detour between Route K and Winghaven. Project should be complete in summer 2026.
- Improve I-70 Project 2: Warrenton to Wentzville – Add an additional lane in each direction of I-70 from the Route 47 interchange in Warrenton to the I-70/I-64/U.S. Route 40/U.S. Route 61 interchange; update the interchange with auxiliary lanes, curve improvements and railroad bridge replacement between Wentzville Parkway and Route Z; upgrades the I-70/I-64/U.S. Route 40/U.S. Route 61 interchange; adds an additional lane in each direction of I-64 between Route K and the I-70/I-64/U.S. Route 40/U.S. Route 61 interchange.
- I-70 corridor improvements – Resurface pavement, replace signage, upgrade lighting and guardrail from west of Airflight Drive to Route 115; Resurfaces pavement, replaces signage, upgrades lighting and guardrail on Route 115 from I-70 to Engler Avenue.
- Interstate 270 bridge replacement (FINISHES SOON) – This project continues work to replace the I-270 bridge over Conway Road, just north of the I-64 interchange. This project also widens and replaces the driving surface on the I-270 bridge over Ladue Road. Project complete by summer 2026.
- I-270 corridor improvements – Add lanes and bridge replacement from Lilac Avenue to west of Route H (Riverview); bridge replacement over Route 367 (Lewis and Clark) and Bellefountaine Road; median barrier replacement from west of Route 367 to west of Lilac Avenue; upgrade pedestrian facilities and signals at Bellefountaine Road.
- Route 370 at the Missouri River bridge rehabilitation – Rehabilitation of the Route 370 bridge over the Missouri River (Discovery Bridge).
Various locations around the district – Work continues on many projects that are updating corridors around the region to Americans with Disability Act requirements, including updated sidewalks, signals and pedestrian crossings.
