Delayed: Buchanan County U.S. Route 169 and SE Riverside Terrace intersection improvement project

Project to begin Monday, March 9

St. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Buchanan County U.S. Route 169 and Southeast Riverside Terrace intersection improvement project south of St. Joseph has been delayed until Monday, March 9. Contractors from Hoy Excavating, LLC, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation planned to close the roadway and begin construction today, March 2, but have delayed the project start by one week due to weather.

Traffic Impacts: Route 169 will be closed between Route AC and Southeast 70th Street beginning Monday, March 9 at approximately 9 a.m. A signed detour will be in place guiding motorists from Route 169 to Missouri Route 31 to U.S. Route 36 to Interstate 29, then back to Route 169. The roadway is expected to reopen in July 2026.

This intersection improvement project will shift the U.S. Route 169 roadway slightly north from Summerhill Drive to just east of Southeast Riverside Terrace and realign both the north and south entrances of Southeast Riverside Terrace at the intersection of Route 169 to improve sight distance.
